You may be surprised to discover how closely your current approach to supervision aligns with evidence-based best practices described in the literature. Donoghue, Ju, and Tsui (2018) provide a framework for developing an evidence-informed model of social work supervision that can be applied across a range of clinical and educational settings. This training will examine the five key areas identified in the literature as essential to supervisory best practice and explore strategies for providing supervision ethically and effectively. Case examples will bring the material to life, and participants will have an opportunity to evaluate their current practices. By the end of the session, participants will leave with practical, evidence-informed strategies for strengthening their supervision skills.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the five key areas for evidence-informed supervision.
  • Evaluate own supervision practice to determine what parts are evidence-informed and what parts need improvement.
  • Apply evidence-informed knowledge to identify at least one change to increase ethical provision of educational or clinical supervision.
