The 2026 Mesoamerica Meetings
Tikal: Politics, Interaction and Power in the Classic Maya World
The 2026 Mesoamerica Meetings will feature some of the latest discoveries and interpretations from the world of Maya archaeology, featuring the great ancient city of Tikal. For several years, excavations in central Tikal have revealed important new information about the history of the ancient Mutul kingdom and the community that was at its center during the Classic period. Much of the new information also sheds light on the great questions surrounding Tikal’s relationship to Teotihuacan and center Mexico. Co-organized by David Stuart (UT Austin) and Edwin Román-Ramírez (Director, PAST project), the 2026 Mesoamerica Meetings will feature the latest excavation data, and the newest thinking about Tikal’s role in wider Mesoamerica. Presenters will include members of the PAST project and others, including Simon Martin, Stephen Houston, and Heather Hurst.
